Update On Heron Street Renovation

In June, the City of Aberdeen submitted a Community Development Block Grant on our behalf to the State of Washington Department of Commerce. The application was formission $750,000. We are excited to share with you that the application was successful! This money will be used to renovate the first floor of our 107-year old main facility on Heron Street. The building currently houses the homeless and low-income meal program and administrative offices downstairs, as well as the 40-bed men’s shelter upstairs. During the renovation, the building’s foundation on the west side, deteriorated from age and dry rot, will be repaired and strengthened. The kitchen and the feeding program will also be moved to the east side of the building, allowing us to expand and upgrade the kitchen and increase our seating for the feeding program from 54 to 100+ seats. We will also install three new restrooms and showers, a clothing bank, and a day room with lockers, all for the homeless to access during the day.

Many have asked where we are on fixing the first floor of our almost 110 year old building, and we are finally progressing along.  There is always a ton of planning with something like this, which requires time.  At this stage, we have had Harbor Architects of Aberdeen Washington on board as the architect, and we hope to soon have a construction contractor hired to begin the renovation.  Please keep checking our website to see what’s going on.
